GETTING THERE AND AROUND
The most ubiquitous vehicle in Bali is the bemo, a small mini bus fitting 10 to 20 people or even more depending on its size and the degree of requesting of the passenger. Bemos are easy to spot by their yellow plates which in Indonesia indicate public transport or a taxi ( black plates are private vehicles and red ones government ) you will find bemos on all the main roads. They can be rare on smaller roads especially in the afternoon after markers are closed.
Bemos take fixed routes, sometimes indicated on their fronts and stop wherever a passenger wants to hop on or leave. To get on one look at the driver and wave your hand towards the side of the road. Upon reaching your destination ask the driver to stop and pay your fare. Bemo fares are usually very cheap from a few hundred to a few thousand rupiah. Before planning a bemo trip its is a good idea to ask at your hotels a bout the routes time of travel and fares. If you are not to sure where you.
Should get off indicate your destination the driver and to the other passenger they will tell you when to stop. You can also ask them what is the proper fare. Always carry small change with you - you cant expect bemo driver to give you even bank note. Some bemos can be chartered for the day with a driver. There is no fixed rate but it should not cost you more than a rental car.
Taxis can easily be found around Denpasar and the nearby tourist spots ( kuta seminyak and sanur) the best ones belong the blue bird company and are of blue color. You cant tell one from your hotels or flag one down at almost any place spots like the end of double six road in seminyak the driver should always put the meter on if not there eaten to get out of the car and take another one fares are very moderate it costs about 10.000 to go around kuta or sanur Rp30.000 to go to the airport and Rp50.000 to go from sanur to kuta. Round the fare to the next thousand Rupiah and consider leaving a tip.
